On Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th December 2013, Years 3, 4 and 5 took to the stage to perform their Christmas production to a packed audience of mums, dads and family members.  The play, titled ‘An Out of this World Christmas’, transported the children on a cosmic adventure into space, where they encountered and befriended the not-so terrifying Zorkonians.  The children demonstrated excellent acting, singing and technical skills to put on an extremely impressive and entertaining show for everyone.  We would like to say an astronomical thank you to all who helped out with the show, making the costumes and joining us on our intergalactic adventure.

Amazing Generosity!

You’ll recall that a few weeks ago we held an ‘own clothes’ day to raise money for ‘ShelterBox’, who send a ‘home-in-a-box’ to areas where they are needed in the World. Our aim was to raise enough for two boxes, at £590 each.

Since then one of our pupils, Olivia, raised a further £37.75 through being sponsored to stay silent!

We also collected at each of our Christmas productions. We are delighted to inform you that in all we raised an incredible £2371.17, which is enough for just over FOUR SHELTER BOXES! Well done everybody, and many thanks for your support.

There is a lovely story on ShelterBox’s website – follow the link:          http://www.shelterbox.org/news_global.php?id=1226

Winter has arrived in Reception…

For the last few weeks Reception have been taking part in a Winter topic. To launch our topic the children worked really hard at home to create fabulous posters about Emperor Penguins.

We imagined that we were stuck in a snow globe.  We wrote about how we would feel and created our own snow globe.

Carol Singing at Intu, Bromley

‘On behalf of everyone at Bromley Mencap I am writing to thank you and the school choir for taking part in our Carol Singing Day at Intu Shopping Centre last Thursday. I hope that the children enjoyed the occasion.  Their singing was absolutely wonderful and a great start to the festive season.

I am delighted to inform you that we collected £1,567 which I am sure you will agree is an amazing sum of money and will make a big difference to us.’

On Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th December, Year 3 had a visit from a Dulwich Picture Gallery artist. The artist spoke to the children about the importance of portraits in the Tudor times and then they all had a chance to make an animal montage using recycled materials that she had brought in.

Gift Assembly

We enjoyed a delightful Gift Assembly this morning which was attended by Dawn Derham from the Bromley Salvation Army. Once again we were overwhelmed by the generosity shown by parents, staff and children alike. You can see in the pictures, the amazing collection of toys and games that were donated for children who are experiencing particular difficulties in their lives at the moment. At least 25 large boxes of toys were collected. The children enjoyed thinking about giving and receiving presents and what we all need most in our lives.

Thank you once again for your very kind donations and wonderful support.

Reception’s Trip to the Post Office

PO 1      PO 2

In Reception we have been learning about People Who Help Us. We finished our topic by visiting the post office on Tile Farm Road. All of the children wrote a letter to post home. They then walked to the post office and bought a stamp. Finally they posted their letter in the post box.

The children were very excited to receive their letters later in the week!  It was a lovely end to our topic.

Orpington Fire Brigade Visits Reception Classes

Fire 1Reception were very lucky last week to receive a visit from Orpington Fire Brigade.  The Fire Fighters drove their fire engine in to the car park.  All of the children were able to go on to the Fire engine and have a look around.  Some children were even luckier and were able to sit in the driver seat.

All of the teaching assistants dressed up in the uniforms.  It was a great day.  We would like to say a big THANK YOU to Orpington Fire Brigade for coming to visit Tubbenden and bring our People Who Help Us topic alive.
