Last week, the Nursery children did lots of counting and measuring in the maths area. They practised their fine motor skills using threading, small pegs and writing.
This term in English, Year 2 have been studying the traditional tale ‘Masha and the Firebird’. The version written by Margaret Bateson-Hill. Margaret came in to visit us on Monday 17th November and told us the story in her own words. She also sang songs and told us all about her life as an author and storyteller.
We are now going to be writing letters to her to say thank you.
On Thursday 20th November, 63 children attended our first Cinema Evening in recognition of their outstanding attendance for the last academic year. The children enjoyed watching the newly released film of ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ and had popcorn and drinks.
Afterwards, we raffled off the DVD, and all received a certificate and a badge saying ‘100% Attendance’.
We very much hope to continue to celebrate attendance success on this scale every year and will be rewarding termly 100% attendance with certificates and badges.
On Friday 7th November 2014, Year 6 went on a surprise trip to ChislehurstCaves for the theme day which linked to their topic: WW2.
First of all, the Year 6 children went to Miss Wollaston’s class room. Then Mr Turvey came in giving bad news as Year 6 went back in time to 1944, to be EVACUATED…
After a long stride, to the totally non-electric train (!), we hopped on and finally reached our unknown destination.
Then there was a sign that made everyone gasp in excitement, the sign said… CHISLEHURST CAVES!!!!
As the poor children dragged their tired feet along the ice-cold stone in the dark caves, they explored what could be their new home for the coming years. Eventually, they had to do a blackout and everyone screamed with fright when a series of bombs exploded. Once the blackout was finished, we headed out of the caves of melancholy and fright, heading back to the non-electric trains, to go school, so we could carry on our theme day.
This week the children have continued learning about the emergency services, role playing with an ‘ambulance’ and enjoying visits from two nurses. The children observed the silence at 11a.m on 11th with poppies that they had made during the session. We have also launched our new class mascot which was hiding in the playground for the children to find.
Welcome back Yellow class! This is how we have begun the new half term:
We used a variety of painting tools and colours to make these firework pictures.
We learnt how to make an instruction “cook book” for chocolatey cakes!
We have been learning the story of Cinderella, we enjoyed acting out different scenes and making our own magical wands!
On Thursday 6th November, Year 2 and Merlin Class had a very exciting drama workshop from the Freshwater Theatre Company! We learnt all about the Great Fire of London, as well as acting out the events of 1666. We pretended that we were fishmongers, bakers, butchers and grocers. Some of us were even riding on a horse and cart! Overall it was a very exciting day and we had lots of fun learning about our new topic.
