In the Nursery this week…

The children in the morning class have been exploring the new season of Spring! On Monday the children went on a walk around the school listening and looking for different creatures and leaves, they found lots of insects under rocks and tree stumps. The children have shown an interest in playing noughts and crosses so were happy to see a giant noughts and crosses grid on the carpet when they came in Tuesday morning.

The afternoon class have also enjoyed learning about Spring and the changing seasons, they also went on a spring walk and collected lots of sticks which they all counted and made ‘story sticks’ with. The children were excited to see the sensory tent in the investigation area, looking at different lights and using the different light up objects.

In the Nursery this week…

The Morning class had a nice surprise on Monday when they came in to see the field full of snow again! we took full advantage of this and the children had a great time pulling each other around on sledges and sliding down the grassy bank. Our literacy focus this week has been the story ‘Superworm’. The children have enjoyed looking at books from the library about mini beasts and engaged in a PE activity copying a yoga video called ‘Stella the Stick Insect’

The Afternoon class have also enjoyed listening about mini beasts and enjoyed digging in mud for ‘worms’ and picking them up with tweezers! they also enjoyed a walk looking for mini beats around the school. The children have been having fun in the ‘Doctors Surgery’ role play area, dressing up as doctors and nurses and helping their friends to get better. In PE they have been playing parachute games and had races to see who can roll down the hill first!

Thank you to everybody who helped their child to make and Easter bonnet, the children enjoyed showing these off in the Easter Assembly this morning 🙂

In the Nursery this week…

In the Nursery, the Morning Class have been exploring the Literacy Focus ‘ Who Sank the Boat’ and have enjoyed a lot of boat based activities! The children played a game of sharks and boats in PE using hoops as boats to try and avoid the sharks and made boats out of junk modelling material which they put in a tray of water and used small wooden people to see how many people it took to sink the boat!

The Afternoon Class showed a lot of interest in playing schools so we turned the role play area into a classroom for the week where the children enjoyed setting activities for their friends to do. In PE they have had fun tackling obstacle courses, climbing, jumping and balancing. The children have also shown a lot of interest in building towers recently so the afternoon children had a fun task of seeing how high they could build Lego towers and some of them challenged themselves to count the bricks!

All day Friday we have celebrated Saint Patrick’s Day in the Nursery. The children were invited to come in wearing green clothes and we read the story of Saint Patrick. The morning children enjoyed activities such as making soda bread, attempting some Irish dancing and painting some snakes with pipe cleaners. The afternoon children watched a video about how Saint Patrick’s day is celebrated, engaged in a rainbow ribbon dance and had fun making rainbow CD’s.

Happy Saint Patrick’s day 🙂

GreenCleaners

Six girls from year 6 have decided to create a litter picking club to help our environment as well as our school. This club runs every week on a Tuesday. It came as quite a shock to our leaders and attenders of the amount of rubbish just on our school field. This club is a great success and we wish to continue it to improve our land.Well done GreenCleaners!
