Celebration of the SMILE room took place on Thursday 5th June. Parents and staff who organised the Glitter Ball held in November 2012 to raise funds to install the multisensory interactive learning environment, were invited for a personal interactive sensory experience to showcase this amazing resource.
Both main stream and unit pupils have been using the room to support learning in different curriculum areas including social interaction and to ‘launch projects’ for example Year 3 have transformed the room into a tropical rain forest. The resources in the room include a 360◦ degree projector, programmable sound and lights, interactive switches (Apple iPad and cube cushion) ultra violet lights, a bubble wall and interchangeable seating to create different scenarios. Teachers are able to create their own personalised programmes to support learning.
We would also like to take this opportunity to give particular thanks to Mrs Nye, Mr & Mrs Kenneally, Miss Broadfoot and Mrs Frost for their fund raising efforts and Mrs Hulme and Mrs McLennan for their technical support to give Tubbenden the amazing resource of the SMILE room
