In the Nursery this week we have been exploring the children’s interest in rockets through the story ‘Whatever Next!’ written by Jill Murphy. The children have enjoyed making large-scale rockets from junk modelling, engaging in role-play activities to retell the story and even had a ‘Picnic on the Moon’ just like the bear in the story.
‘Whatever Next!’ role-play in the home-corner. All ready to journey to the moon!
After using the foil to make rockets and helmets the children chose to make some shiny paintings with the foil which was great fun!
Our ‘Picnic on the Moon’ activity supported the development of the children’s maths skills by requiring them to share picnic food amongst their peers fairly by measuring quantity and halving some items. It was also very tasty!
The children have thoroughly enjoyed reading the story ‘Whatever Next!’ and in order to build upon their continuing interest in rockets, astronauts and planets we will be focussing on the topic ‘Space’ next week.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you next week!
