Nursery Weekly Newsletter 17/05/19

Dear Parents and Carers,

Morning Provision:

This week we have been discussing ourselves and our families and what makes us all different. We used the small world houses and people to make our own families and discuss who lives with us. we also used mirrors to create self portraits.

The children have been exploring lots of different maths activities this week and have begun to look at simple addition problems. We counted how many ‘sorting bears’ in each pile then counted how many there were altogether.

The children have also been really into playing board games this week, they played giant snakes and ladders and human snakes and ladders!

Afternoon Provision :

Due to the lovely weather this week, we went on a sensory walk! we went to the field to see what different things we could see and hear. We then sat down in the middle of the field and drew the different things. We were slightly concerned when one child said they could hear a lion!

We’ve spent a lot of time outside this week engaging in large scale mark making activities, the children used paint, crayons and ink with stamps.

They have also shown an interest in talking about their home life this week so we discussed our homes and who lives with us then used our construction bricks to houses.

Home Learning:

This weeks home learning is to play a board game! the children have shown a great interest in board games this week and it also helps to extend their counting skills.

Photos of these activities or any other exciting news can be emailed to

Class Mascot:

As a result of a class vote, our mascot is now called ‘Jerry’. This was a very popular choice and won over Captain America, Groot and Mr Squeeky.

Sun Cream and Hats:

The sun is finally here! can we please ask you send your child in with a sun hat labelled with your child’s name as we will be starting to spend a lot more time outside. Also, please make sure you send your child in wearing sun cream. All Day parents, we will be sending home a form for you to sign giving us permission to apply sun cream to your child which we will do at lunch time. Please could you return the form with a bottle of sun cream labelled with your child’s name.
