What a great start to the Christmas season. Last week the Infants held their Nativity shows. Reception, Nursery and some members of Yellow Class became sheep, camels, donkeys, cats, cockerel as well the normal Nativity characters. Whilst Year 1, 2 and some members of Yellow class became Angels, Shepherds, Kings, donkeys, Innkeepers, soldiers and Stars.
The shows went fantastically and the children performed very well. A big thanks to the parents and carers who provided such wonderful costumes.

This term in English, Year 2 have been studying the traditional tale ‘Masha and the Firebird’. The version written by Margaret Bateson-Hill. Margaret came in to visit us on Monday 17th November and told us the story in her own words. She also sang songs and told us all about her life as an author and storyteller.
We are now going to be writing letters to her to say thank you.
On Thursday 6th November, Year 2 and Merlin Class had a very exciting drama workshop from the Freshwater Theatre Company! We learnt all about the Great Fire of London, as well as acting out the events of 1666. We pretended that we were fishmongers, bakers, butchers and grocers. Some of us were even riding on a horse and cart! Overall it was a very exciting day and we had lots of fun learning about our new topic.
On Tuesday 20th May, all of year 2 went to the Tower of London. We went on the train to London Bridge station, then walked across London Bridge looking at the amazing architecture and sights of London. When we got to the Tower we explored the White Tower, the Crown Jewels, the Bloody Tower and we even met a real knight! He told us about what life was like in medieval times and how the castle was built. We learnt a lovely dance and were the star attraction for the other visitors. We really enjoyed meeting the ravens and learnt why they live there. We also heard gory stories about people having their heads chopped off! Overall it was a fantastic day…even if we did have very achy legs afterwards! We would like to thank all of the parents that came along to help with this excellent day.
To start our new Mythical Creatures topic, Year 2 dressed up as creatures from myths, stories or from their own imagination! We had great fun showing off our outfits to other classes in the outside area. In the afternoon we made our own mythical creatures out of junk modelling material. We had a fantastic day and can’t wait to learn more about myths and the fantastic creatures in them.
This term, Year 2 have been learning all about having a healthy, balanced diet. We have been finding out about the five different food groups, how much you should eat each day and where different foods come from.
We have been sketching and painting different fruit and vegetables, and we will be making other pieces of art using vegetables in the coming weeks.
On Tuesday 5th November, Year 2 took a journey back to the year 1666 with the Freshwater Theatre Company. We investigated the events surrounding the Great Fire of London, including how it started, who was involved and how it was finally stopped. We had a fantastic time and found out lots of great information that we didn’t know before. We also had fun pretending to be flames, butchers, bakers and fishermen! It was a very exciting introduction to our new topic.
